Hardware requirement for Wmware ESX5

Hi All,

One Immature VCP 5.0 certified guy suggested AMD A6 Vison APU Processor for VMware ESXi 5, It was very slow & I found that this APU (CPU) is for gaming purpose. I immediately got it replaced with given below config on my own research.

Finally I got Intel i7 (Intel® Core™ i7-2600K Processor (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) processor with 16GB RAM and Intel DZ 68 DB Mother board . I need to check whether this will work for ESXI 5 as the packet is yet to open.

Please how do I go about it

Can I directly install ESXi 5 ?

or

Install the following software

Windows 7 -64 bit

Install Vmware workstation 8

Install ESXi5

Inside ESXi5 install Windows 2008 -64bit server and install Vcenter server on it.

In windows 7 install Vcenter Client

Can anybody tell me whether the above said model work for ESXi5 lap purpose?

Please advice.

Many thanks in advance,

Regards,

Samy

If you want to run ESXi native on the system you should check if your hardware is supported on the VMware Compatibility Guide or you can run ESXi in VMware Workstation.

Processsor support both VT-x and VT-d features

I would go with Option2 using VMware Worsktation for setting up the lab..

In a lab enviroment you will properly need minimum two ESXi hosts, if you want to test features like vMotion etc.

So I suggest to install VMware Workstation on top of Windows 7. Wit 16GB and an i7 you can run two ESXI, a vCenter (Appliance) and a VSA.
