Hardware Spec

got a 3 Dell Servers available but have a few questions on CPUs

Have a Dell 1950 (version 3) running 2 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU  E5450  @ 3.00GHz, 16GB Ram

and Dell T110 (Version 2) Intel Xeon E3-1270 Processor (3.4GHz, 4C/8T, 8M Cache, 80W, Turbo), 16GB Ram.

Which out of the two would deliver the best performance? running 3-4 VMs

Just guess work w/o reviewing any kind of benchmarking.  I would say if you are planning on only running 3 or 4 VMs (assuming single CPU) then I would probably go with the E3.

It has less physical cores, but is way faster than the E5450 + has multi threading.  Core # shouldn't be too much of an issue if you are only running 3 VMs anyways.

Also worth considering RAM performance based on system board, that can play a factor as well.

ok,would the older CPUS run faster as there are actually two cpus each with 4 cores
