HP z400 Workstation and ESXi 4

******Problem ****

I'm having issues loading ESXi onto the HP z400 Workstation.

I have been able to get ESXi 3.5 to install, but it wont recognize any network interfaces. ESXi 4.0 fails to install with a "failed to load lvmdriver" error.

*****Troubleshooting ***

I googled the lvmdriver error, and it pointed to the network card compatibility issues. I proceeded as suggested and purchased an Intel Pro/1000 GT adapter that should be compatible with both 3.5 and 4.0 and installed it.

I disabled the on board network card in bios. (I think. HP has some weird wording that says "Device Hidden" under the System Security Settings. The link lights don't turn on when a cable is plugged in though.)

I updated the Bios to the newest 01.14 Rev. a.

With these changes I still haven't had any luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you access the console during the install is the Pro1000 NIC shown - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/find_PCI_ID.php.

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.
