HP Proliant Server AHCI Pass Thru

I have been using a G8 microserver with the HPE custom image for ESXi 6 and successfully passing thru the b120i controller (set for AHCI mode in bios, shows as Cougar Point Sata controller in VMware) to an Expenology VM. I have a raid card in the spare pcie slot which has an ssd raid 10 array for vm storage.

I recently purchased a HP ML310e Gen8 V2 server and want to migrate from the microserver. I have installed the HPE ESXi 6 image and set the b120i to AHCI in bios on the ML310, but I cannot get the b120i (Lynx Point Sata controller) to show in the list of pass thru devices.

The servers have the same onboard b120i controller and use the same driver, the only difference is the chipset on the motherboard.

Can anyone help?

Or should I just purchase a HBA card and pass it thru.

Sure have.

i ended up ordering a HP hba card as I know this will work.

A bit more googling on lynx point and esxi turned up the solution however:

DirectPath I/O support for Haswell Lynx Point SATA AHCI controller
