HP Proliant DL380 G5 and HP Proliant ML370G5 - compatible with ESX4?

Just checking the hardware compatibility guide for my HP Proliant DL 380 G5 Intel 5160 Dual Core, Dual Processor 3.0 Ghz and HP Proliant ML 370 G5 Intel 5150 Dual Core, Dual Processor 2.66Ghz servers that have Intel VT and can not find them on the list.

Has anyone installed vSphere / ESX4 onto these servers?

Is there a reason why they are not on the list?

Thank you

You have me worried, Tonik!!

I had just assumed that my HP Proliant DL380 G5 with 5160 processor(Dual Core) would be ok for ESX 4 as it is working at the moment with ESX 3.0.1 !!

Is this just an oversight on the documentation perhaps??!!

I have a couple installations running on HP DL380 G5's with ESX4 and they are screaming fast without problems

ESX4 HP HCL=13&datePosted=-1&partnerId[]=41&cpuModeId[http://communities.vmware.com/community-document-picker.jspa?communityID=&subject=%5D%3D41%26%2338%3BcpuModeId%5B]=-1&stepping=&nsockets=&ncores=&max_mem=&rorre=0][ESX4 HP HCL|http://communities.vmware.com/community-document-picker.jspa?communityID=&subject=ESX4HPHCL]

cripes, i have no idea why that vmware.com link wont format properly, DL380 G5 is on the esx4 hcl. you can search it at http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

I'm not familiar with the HP servers, but I can give you a little insight into HCL certification.

As ESX4 is a major release everything, servers, storage, HBAs, etc, all need to be re-certified for inclusion on the HCL. This is something that takes time and not everything is going to be certified in time for GA. If you think about it a company is going to start certifying their currently shipping virtualization flagship products and work backwards - at some point they are going to stop. I would suggest contacting you sales and support contact at HP, they may be able to confirm whether or not that are planning on certifying the servers you have. Given that the DL380 G5 is still available for sale I expect it is only a matter of time.

Thankyou for your all of your replies. In particular to glynnd1 and MVarre - I will now proceed with upgrading to ESX4.
