Hello all.
I recently acquired a HP Proliant DL140 G2 server.
Specs:
2 x 3.6Ghz Xeon
4GB DDR2 PC3200 ECC RAM
Intel board (factory standard)
Intel SCSI controller (factory standard)
2 x 36GB 15K RPM SCSI HDD
I originally had installed VMWare ESXi 4 on Disk0. This worked fine and I had some VMs installed and fully operational.
After having to do some testing which involved unplugging just the power connectors of both HDDs then powering up, since replacing the power connectors it wont boot into ESXi.
It just comes up saying 'Operating system not found'.
Tried so far:
Swapped both power cables and SCSI cables to test all combinations of cables.
Cleared CMOS then tried booting up.
Re-configured BIOS then tried booting again.
Changes many BIOS settings, all matter of combinations.
Removed all partitions on both HDDs using the Windows Server 2003 installation disk.
The HDDs are recognised in BIOS, post and the ESXi installation CD. The ESXi installation works fine but after reboot it ends up on a black screen stating 'Operating system not found'.
Any ideas guys?
Many thanks.
Ru.
Hello,
Moved to the vSphere ESXi 4 forum.
Double check the HCL, there are some constraints when using the DL140 G2. I would ensure your SCSI card is not in RAID mode for starters.

I don't think any of the DL100 series are on the HCL. I don't know whether the G2 series supports booting from USB key but check and see whether it does and try that.
