HP ML350 G6 only able to see 1 Logical Drive

Server is using the P410i controller (no BBWC).

Currently running on a RAID 5 (4x300gb drives) however the LUN has just dropped below 10% of available space. We've since added a RAID 1 (2x 600gb drives) however when trying to add the storage to the host ESXi can't see it.

Health Status shows the new (2nd) logical drive, however I believe this is just because it pulls the information straight from the BIOS.

BIOS is running at the latest firmware (D22, 2011-05-05), as is the RAID controller (5.12).

Cases were raised with both HP and VMware, but both keep pointing the finger at each other and we've not been able to source a resolution.

I'm hoping someone will have some other ideas on how we can get the host to see the storage.

I remember that I had an issue once with a P400 when I was creating a second RAID set using ORCA. It worked with using the ACU deleting and re-creating the RAID seta and logical volume.

What you could do to troubleshoot is to run a rescan and then check the vmkernel log for errors.

I understand that the new storage is not presented as available storage in the "Add Storage" wizard. Do you see the newly created RAID/logical drive in "Configuration" -> "Storage Adapters"? If you can see it, then you should check whether the new disk contains a "dirty" partition information, which may be needed to cleanup. (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008886)

Unfortunately it does not show up there either. If I load up the HP ACU, each RAID set has it's own ID.

The ID for the RAID 5 set shows up there but not the RAID 1.

I'm just waiting to hear back from the Engineer that originally did the work ; but I'm hoping that may be the resolution. Will update you once I've given it a try!

Ok, I'm told he used the SmartStart DVD ISO via ILO. Darn.

Have done a rescan and checked the logs and here's the output:

I didn't actually check what the original stripe size was set to (so don't know if that was the issue), anyway I booted up off the Offline ACU ISO using ILO, deleted and recreated the RAID 1 with a 128k stripe size and... Voila! It now presents Smiley Happy

Thanks for your suggestion!
