HP Blade ESXi 5.1U3 to ESXi 5.5U3 upgrade caveats and pitfalls to avoid ?

Hi People,

I'm currently running ESXi 5.1 Update 3 for all of my HP Blade BL 465c G7 and G8 with HP Virtual Connect modules (firmware v 4.01).

Can anyone here please share some thoughts and comments about what are the pitfalls to avoid and caveats to be aware of in upgrading the ESXi 5.1 to Update 3A ?

is there any data loss or anything that needs to be reconfigured when updating the ESXi 5.1 to 5.5U3 through the iLO console ?

Note: I will be using HP OEM image for all of the HP Blades.

  • Migrate the VM to another host.
  • Mount the HP Custom ESXi ISO through ILO
  • Reboot the server
  • Boot the server from ISO image
  • Install the esxi with preserve datastore option
  • Once installation completed
  • Reconnect on VCenter
  • Move the VM to newly updated Esxi Host
  • Do the same process one by one .

Update manager is also another option to upgrade you esxi

I have used Update Manager to continuously update and upgrade my blades. I have G7 and G8 blades.

I use the HP Customized ESXi image to install/upgrade whatever version of ESXi and then Update Manager configured to download patches from HP. Pleasee see: http://www.jonmunday.net/2013/03/19/update-manager-online-depot-for-hp-and-dell-extensions/

with a baseline for HP Patches:

and it works perfectly.

Hi JinuV‌ and unsichtbarre‌ Is there any caveats or issue on the ESXi hosts or the HP Blades after the Virtual Connect firmware upgrade to 4.45 ?
