HA protected or not?

Many VM in a vSphere 5 cluster are reported as HA "Unprotected" with the following message:

Unprotected
vShphere may attempt to restart the VM after a supported failure but is not guaranteed to do so
The VM is unprotected when the following conditions have been met:
VM is in a vSphere HA enabled cluster
VM powered on successfully after a user-initiated power on
vSphere HA has not recorded that the desired prower state for this VM is on

I looked for the meaning of the messages but I was unable to locate any explaination.

Is the VM protected or not?

How can I troubleshoot and solve this issue?

Regards

marius

What vSphere 5 version are you running? If it is 5.0 or 5.1 it might just be a cosmetic issue....
