I have a small environement and was wondering if it's possible to have any sort of HA or FT with non-shared storage. I currently dont have vCenter but I'm probably going to try and get Essentials plus kit.

HA and FT, both require shared storage to be able to restart/resume a VM in case of a host failure.

You could use vSphere Storage Appliance which will allow you to share the locally attached storage if your ESXi hosts allowing to take advantage of VMware HA - for more information check out VMware vSphere Storage Appliance (VSA) for Shared Storage | United States
