Hi, good evening.
We have received and installed a nice Windows XP guest
that has some server application listening on port 8911,
but unfortunatelly no client can get connected to this port.
My host is a x3850-M2 running ESX v 4.0.1
How can I make sure the ESX Firewall is not cutting this connection(s) ?
Any sugestions on how to manage this problem ?
Thanks. Sebastian.
ESX firewall never touches the VM communication. This seems more windows/firewall related than anything.

Well ... let me tell some details ...
From the same Windows Guest, "TELNET LOCALHOST 8911" does NOT get connected, but Rejected .... Any clue ?
Of course (i bet 10 USD) server has no firewall, neither Guindous, nor Symantec ... or ZoneAlarm ... jejeje
seems weird, and really windows related. I don't think any vmware related issue can be generating the problem. I would really start finding out if the service is really up, "netstat -na", things like that.

I use "netstat -ano", so the process number of the owner is also displayed,
and then I use "tasklist" or "tasklist /svc" to display who is the owner.
All is normal in my XP Guest ... but nobody can reach this service / server ....
Thanks anyway. Sebastian.
