Guest Status "Invalid", Can't Delete

6.5.0 Update 1 (Build 6765664)

Lost an array, restored backups to a new server.  Was overdue to migrate any ways.

Now, on the old server, I get "invalid" status for the lost guests.  No worries, we are all set on the new server.  BUT, I cannot get rid of the phantom guests.

Help?

What happens when you login directly to the ESXi

If you see the same in ESXi hosts

edit /etc/vmware/hostd/vmInventory.xml and remove it from there

Just it, I can't remove them, I only get Power, Auto Start, and Help as options.  ;-(

Added a pic for clarity.

The data store was irrecoverably damaged.  The server still is looking for these though, hence the orphan like status.  Ugh.

Trying that.  Made a copy, renamed original, then uploaded the modified.

Didn't take with a browser refresh.

Will reboot server as soon as I can and report back.

Thanks!

Restart not needed.  🙂

/etc/init.d/hostd restart

/etc/init.d/vpxa restart

All is cool now, thank you virtuallysekar!

Ok, weird.  Finally made time for a reboot, and now the invalid guests are back!

Looking at the folder /etc/vmware/hostd/ it looks like it has been "restored"?  My backup file, vmInventory.xml.bak (from the edit earlier) is gone. The file, vmInventory.xml, looks exactly like it did before I did my edits.

Any ideas?!?!?

Not sure, but the latest ESXi Embedded Host Client may contain a fix to allow deleting such entries.

Maybe worth a try!?
