Guest CPU Downgrade

HI,

I have a VM running Server 2003 SP2 x64 with 4 CPU's.

We are considering downgrading from 4 CPU's to 2 CPU's. I have done some reading and found that there are apparently issues surrounding the OS. Could anyone shed more light on this and confirm if downgrading CPU's is in fact an issue?

It's true with Windows 2003 your HAL would need updating if/when you remove CPU's from the configuration.

I think the easiest way is to go back to uniprocessor state and then add the second CPU again if you need 2 CPU's

Here's an interesting link to help you on your way, it's for vSphere 4.1 but that should not make much of a difference.

As long as you don't downgrade to a single vCPU there should not be any issues with the OS.

That ... In fact ... Is correct  ... As usual I'm making things too complicated
