Hello,
As far as I can tell running ESXi 5.1 isn't supported on a Gen1 HP BL460c.

ESXi 5.0 is supported. I was wondering why 5.0 can be run but not 5.1. Were there major changes between these versions which mean it isn't compatible with the hardware? Or is it a case of it might run ok but if it doesn't then you are on your own.
Thanks,
Steve
Hi Steve,
It's definitely not supported, and neither all all generations prior to G6 (see atatached).
I can only assume that these gen servers went EOL prior to 5.1 being released so it made no sense to provide support for these models?
Cheers,
Jon

OK - thanks for the info Jon.

VMware remove support for various hardware in each release (not in patch releases) based on various factors. Like the hardware which are EOL from the vendor itself, less customer base, etc
In your case BL460c Gen 1 is an End of Life product support from HP. So its expected that customer will upgrade the hardware. That may be the reason why VMware is not supporting it now.
