GPU support without Direct I/O

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone knows if VM's can make use of the GPU without direct I/O?

I have an old Dell PE2950 with 2x 5460 CPU's and it doesn't have vt-d. Now I'm running some apps on different VMs that can make use of a GPU and I do see option to enable 3d and to specifify amount of video RAM; however, I'm not sure if purchasing a video card will help or not. I can get a PCI express 1x gt520 videocard.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding a video card and if it can actually make use of the GPU? I'm not so much concerned about CUDA support since I don't have the processor with vt-d anyway.

Any educated thoughts are apperciated,

Thanks!

Without the VT-d support - no.  The '3D' support is CPU emulated.
