Funny LUN business as we upgrade from 4.1U1 to 5.0U1

Aloha,

We have this one LUN that once we upgrade a host to 5, the LUN disappears. We go into Add Storage and see the LUN. We tried to add (the wording here is foggy so hang with me) keeping the same signature. When doing that the command abended. Being a not so important LUN, I decided to try adding with a new signature(?).

Now on the two hosts we have upgraded, the LUN shows as snap-hexstuff-ESX-Templates while on the single yet to be upgraded host (to be done Friday) it shows as the original name ESX-Templates. When trying to rename the LUN on the upgraded hosts I get the message "The name 'ESX-Templates' already exist".

So at this point what do we do??

Mahalo,

  1. Create a new LUNa
  2. attach the LUNa to the upgraded hosts ONLY.
  3. Browse the "ESX-Templates" datastore
    1. move all data from "ESX-Template" to the new datastore "LUNa" (righ click folder then select "move")
    2. done!
  4. go to Datastores section
    1. unmount datastore "snap-hexstuff-ESX-Template" and delete it
  5. connect directly to the ESXi host to be upgraded
    1. right click the datastore "ESX-Template" and unmount it
    2. and delete it
  6. Upgrade your old ESXi host
  7. Add it to vCenter
  8. done!

You could use "winSCP" to browse datastores to copy and/or move data!

Is your storage on the HCL for ESXi 5?
