Format the disks using OMSA for VMware

Hi

We have installed ESX 4.0 on Dell PowerEdge 1950 .

We need to add the storage LUN and we have 4.5 TB (RAID5) free space.

We are getting this error:

>>error during the configuration of the host failed to get disk partition information<<

The problem is, ESX 4.0 doesn't support partition greater than 2TB!

Howto Format the disks using OMSA for VMware?

BTW We cannot upgrade to ESXi 5.x, because of old hardware.

Hi,

Take a look at the steps outlined in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100888... to see if that helps.

Many tx

we've to create a virtual disk  ( less thatn 2TB) from the RAID controller, I think Perc is the default one.

That Disk will be detected as a Physcial Disk/LUN by ESX.

PERC support logical volume.

So build two different virtual disk (on the PERC size) smaller than 2 TB.
