First VM missing CD/DVD device driver

Hi, I have installed ESXi from a USB flash drive because the server does not have an internal DVD/CD ROM. So I uploaded the ISO files to the datastore. I created my virst virtual machine (Windows 7) and point the DVD to the ISO file. It starts windows 7 install but errors out within a few seconds of. It says its missing a CD/DVD device driver and gives me the browse, ok and cancel button. Where can I get these drivers or can I use my vsphere clients DVD to install windows 7? I have a USB DVD I can use on the server but have not been able to figure out how.

That's odd. I mean, if the install starts up fine, it means that it can read from CD/DVD, hence as driver (even if generic) has already been loaded. I don't know of any special requirement for Windows 2008 when installing in ESXi, as a matter of fact, I've done it a few time from both a datastore iso and local iso without any issues.

Can you try downloading a Linux distro and see if you encounter the same issue ?

I am able to install windows XP but I have to load 3rd party scsi drivers. Does windows 7 require these drivers too? I have a USB CDROM can I use this CDROM on the VM?

If you are using vmware esxi 4.1,just try to use HD controller as IDE model. When you used SCSI controller to install XP os,the SCSI driver is inneed.
