File contents of VSA installer 5.5.2

the VSA auto installer iso is 2gb, whereas the VSA auto installer exe is 1gb . Are the contents the same, and which i should i choose?

we are trying to get a copy of vsa v5.5 . however our colleague that downloaded files seem to obtain some irrelevant files.

on one DVD, we got the content that seems to be for v5.1 instead of 5.5:

"installers, Microsoft.VC90.CRT, ovf, library, _ctypes.pyd, _hashlib.pyd, _socket.pyd, _ssl.pyd, autorun.ico, autorun.inf, bz2.pyd, install.exe log4j, python26.dll, select.pyd, unicodedata.pyd, vsphere-storage-appliance-51-install-administration-guide.pdf"

on another DVD, "apache-axis2-1.5.1, baseOS, blazeds-4.0.1.21287, iometer-2006.07.27, jaxb-2.1.6, jetty-8.1.0.v20120127, jna-3.2.7"

we just dont know how to install these.

i think you are downladong the Vcenter server appliance from the Vmware site ,

login to the myvmware.com and choose downloads and choose the appropriate version and download .

We logged in, and chose the version being 5.5

we're not trying to download vcenter. we got vcenter already in windows or appliance form, both of which has problems/errors in installation with default values.

the vmware engineer on the phone blame this on our hardware not precisely certified on the compatibility list.

We are trying to get VMware storage appliance, not vcenter. And so far we seem to only get version 5.1 or some rpm files. There is no signs of the content being for version 5.5

The question I asked was how come the vsa installer in iso format is 2gb big whereas the exe version is 1gb. what is missing in the exe version?? I hate there is no documentation on the file contents.

if you really need to analyse the files that are composed of, and check which vib's are missing or which is made up of

you can do those check using command line "esxcli software" command

to verify if your hardware is compatible check the Vmware HCL site http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Hi there,

I think there are some errors on the MyVMware page and potentially with the files included on the ISO.

So the 2Gb VSA Automated Installer ISO file contains all the components required for VSA including the OVF for the Appliance itself and the VSA Manager plugin.

The 1Gb VSA Automated Installer EXE file is just for the VSA Manager plugin only- the description of this is incorrect on the MyVMware page.

The Installation documentation included in the ISO is for 5.1 which is strange, the build number and the MD5 match for the 5.5 description on the site so perhaps this was an oversight.

I can only suggest to run through the install - the 5.5 install docs can be found here and see what you get, if it's 5.1 then I suggest you raise a ticket with VMware as this is obviously an error, I suspect that it may install 5.5 but the docs and some of the filenames/links included in the ISO are the wrong version.

This may be worth raising as an issue anyway to VMware.

I have checked at VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search already

They support Dell Poweredge 2950 III , but our model is the first version of motherboard not the third, therefore our hardware is not 100% supported even if I tried to use the customised ISO file from dell.

I have raised the problem to VMWare support engineer in China. They too feel helpless as the software download on their download website is only available to paid customers. They are unable to let me FTP a correct version of the files. I hope they are now communicating the issue with VMWare headquarter overseas so the webmaster can fix the problem on the website.

I think the support engineer also pointed to the documentation that VSA 5.1 is not compatible with VSphere 5.5. So I suspect we are stuck in setting up the systems for testing until VMWare official correct their website materials.

i gave vmware tech support USA a call, and aside from the low quality of phone network connection, after going through a stupid voice driven computer IVR menu, the staff just pass me around like a meat ball keeping me waiting. The tech support says my cases is in relation to licensing and customer service, and the staff from licensing and customer service says it is related to tech support.
