Fedora 14 on ESX 4.0

Hello,

I would like to install Fedora 14 on ESX 4.0. I am not sure which Guest operating system version to choose during VM gest preparation.

Any ideas?

Red Hat or Generic Linux 2.6 is fine. But be warned that VMware Tools may, and most likely will not, work with Fedora 14.

I used "other 64 bit" and it worked well with the exception of installing VMware tools. Just make sure if you are installing it on an ESX host datastore that when it asks adout drive type you use and advanced option - otherwise it will not see the VMware virtual disk. Once it finds the disk you will have to initialize it too.

I have read several posts on getting or "tricking" VMware Tools into installing... none of these posts so far have worked. I have had problems/issues with the 64 bit version of Ununtu server 10.10 as well. I am thinking of calling VMware support on this since I paid for support. But I am unsure if they will be able to help.

If they can, I will post a solution out on my blog.

Generic 2.6 worked for me.

Try this solution for getting the tools working on newer kernels.
