Fault-Tolerance for Management Network

Hi to all !

I test actually ESXi 4 (Free) running as a VM

I create a small VM with two NICs (vmnic0 et vmnic1) connected to the vswitch0 (where there is the management network)

I test this :

On another computer, I ping IP adress of ESXi , it's ok

Then, I disconnect the vmnic0, I can't ping IP adress of ESXi until I reconnect vmnic0

vswitch0 have vmnic0 and vmnic1 as active (tested 1 active, 1 standby) and it's configurated like

Load balancing : Route based on the orig virtual port ID

Fault tolerance : link status only (tested beacon probing)

Notify switches : yes,

Failback : yes

Where is the problem ? vmnic1 shouldn't "assume his role" in fault tolerance ? Is there because it's running in VM ?

I have an ESX 3.5U3 and it's work great !

Does Fault-Tolerance require 802.3ad switches ? If yes, vswitch does support 802.3ad ?

In this case, are vswitches 802.3ad ?

Forget about Fault tolerance in this case, it's completely different technology.

If VMkernel interface is marked as used for Fault tolerance it means that traffic for Fault Tolerance VMs synchronization will go through this interface. This parameter actually means something for vSphere Advanced at least.
