  • 1.  FCoE with FRAME DROPS

    Hello,

    We put 13 identical VMware 5.5 hosts into production a few month ago. (IBM X3550 M4 with one Qlogic onboard Mez FCoE card and one PCIe Qlogic card) The fabrics is VDX swiches connected to an IBM V7000 with FCoE. 10 of the servers is running without any issues, but 3 of them is randomly dropping frames on the onboard FCoE cards. (PCIe is working perfectly) IBM already replaced the onboard FCoE cards several times. Tried creating a VMware support ticket however their answer was "it's a FC connectivity/Swtich problem". We got nothing from debugging the switches (no issues) Anyone seen this before?

    As per the logs increased latency is  visible in VMware is due to host  workload.

    To solve the problem, we have to activate the following:

    • flowcontrol receive on
    • flowcontrol send on

    Do it on for all the interfaces involved in FCoE in all switches for the ESXi hosts where the problem appears.

    See if this solves your problem.

    PFC has been enabled for the CEE links that is being used for storage traffic. PFC should be better than the old Flow Control.

    Hi,

    Did you manage to solve the problem? If you refer to this website, http://www.klestrup.dk/blog/fcoe-frame-drops-running-vmware-55-with-ibm-qlogic-mezz-cards, the problem was solved after they moved the Mezz card to PCIe.
