When installing my ESX 4 server i made a rookie mistake. I accepted the default setting for drive size.
My root (\) is only 4.9 gb which is not nearly enough. Currently I'm using 64% of that and will fill up when I try install the new Update 3.
Now I need to expand that drive and need to know the best way to go about this.
I'm not a linux guy by trade I'm an windows guy but I do know enough to get by.
I do have Linux guys that can help if need be.
Please HELP!
You are basically stuck with reinstalling
But you might not fill it up. Rather than put the update.zip in /, put it on one of your datastores and install it....should be fine.
you could try the above advise on putting the file on another mountpoint or head to this KB and see if you can clear some unwanted files .. http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003564
Hi,
what are you storing on your root partition?
My ESX servers only use 1,8GB right now.

Thanks for the link it was helpful in finding where all my space was going.
I found out that my backup system stores the metadata on the local drive which was about 2Gb.
I'm having them move that data to a Datastore which should give me lots of space back.
Thanks
Could be the right time to change and migrate to ESXi
