Esxi v6 on HP Proliant with RAID

Hello

I'm trying to install Esxi v.6 on a HP Proliant Server, with two 1TB HDDs that have been set up as a logical RAID-1 array. This microserver has a built in RAID controller that I have read is supported by Esxi.

(The exact model is HP Proliant ML310 Gen.8 E3-1220, and the built in Raid controller is HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i).

I have set up the RAID array using HP's configuration tool, and it seems to be recognised during the boot process. However, when I try to install Esxi by booting from the install CD, the array is NOT recognised (Esxi "sees" two separate HDDs). Do I need to include any extra drivers? If so, how do I include them in the boot CD?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Petros

For this to work you need to use HP's customized ESXi installation image which contains the required driver for this controller.

The download is available from https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere/6_0#custom...

Other option to detect the array controller is add the driver whit ESXi Customizer VMware Front Experience: ESXi-Customizer
