I’m experiencing odd performance issues with file transfers on esxi 5.0.
I’m sorry that this is so vague. I can’t find the post I was going to add this to with a similar discussion.
I experience this on multiple different esxi 5.0 systems... standalone or licensed. This is widespread and I see it all the time on multiple different servers and devices.
I first noted it on my normal usb drives after the upgrade. USB transfers to the drive were maxing out at 5.5x MB/sec (oddly sometimes 8.xx MB/sec). I use many of these drive for redundant backup storage for example using windows backup on win server 2008 (not r2). All of these performed perfectly when on 4.1 at device specs (say usb2 or iSCSI gigabit transfer rates)
Now I’m noticing that my some of my iSCSI transfers are capping out that this same 5.5x MB/sec. Oddly with the iSCSI (and maybe with USB too, I just don’t see it), it will start at 90 MB/sec for 5 seconds then pause and slowly drop down to 5.5x MB/sec on large transfers.
Normal network traffic seems to be fine (SATA or SAS).
There is something in Esxi 5.0 that is throttling these devices.
