Esxi 5.0 - Near Line SAS?

Hi there.

I'm looking to implement a new VM Server at my office for internal purposes only. I will be running a couple of monitoring servers such as cacti and nagios under *nix and x2 Windows systems. One Domain Controller and a fil server. Both 2008 R2.

System wise i'm looking at a Dell r710, 1 Proc x 6 cores 2.66 with around 16GM of RAM. I'm on a fairly tight budget on this one and require a fair amount of storage for the Fil sever so i'm looking at near Line SAS. I've been give a pretty decent quote for around 3TB of storage using NLS disks. 1TB each running at 7.2k. Performance wise speed is not a huge requirement and is second to capacity but i'm concerned whether they will actually do the job and give me the basic performance i require?

Has anyone got any advice on this? Especially anyone out there who is actually running something similar?

Cheers,

J.

Should be fine...    Don't get the SAS 6/iR controller.  It stinks at running anything but the O/S in my opinion.

Any RAID card that offers battery backed up cache should be fine.
