Esxi 4.1 host disconnecting from vCenter after about a minute

Hi,

I have a server and that’s running esxi 4.1 with a real IP address.

Im using one of its virtual machines to run vCenter with NAT IP address.

Every min or so the host disconnects from the vCenter.

Im looking for a solution to this problem for 3 day and cant find one that will solve it!!

I know it’s a NAT problem because when I assign a real IP address to the vCenter machine, the connection is solid!!

The things ive done so far:

  1. Open all ports on the firewall.
  2. Configured vpxa.cfg on the host to: <serverIp>[vCenter NAT_IP_address]</serverIP>
                                                       <preserveServerIp>true</preserveServerIp>
  3. The Manuals say to do: “service vmware-vpxa restart” but I always get: “not found” (I cant understand why I don’t have this option or any service commands) so I did service.sh restart.

To configure the host im using PUTTY.

Please please please help my….

Many thanks ofer.

Welcoem to the Community - How are you doing the NAT? ESXi nor vCenter does NAT - are you able to ping the ESXi host from the vCenetr machine?

I use another virtual machine that runs pfsense to do the  NAT and Im able to ping the esxi host from the vCenter (the ping is constant even at the moment the host disconnect).

Another thing I did is to put a sniffer (wireshark) on the vCenter and I looked at all the ports that the host and the vCenter use to talk. At the moment the host disconnect you can see FIN ACK from both sides so its not crashing its just disconnecting…

This is not a supported configuration, therefore you will not get much help. Why are you natting it?

Can you take a step back and give me some info on your environment, work, home, lab,  etc, and basic design of it. Switches etc.  Also, what are looking to use this for, prod, test, etc.  Thanks
