Esxi 4.1 and vmotion

We have three ESXi 4.1 hosts fully patched. I have ntoiced that vmotion shows up disbled on any one of these hosts at times. I noticed it today when I rebooted the host and vmotion was disabled. Is there a means to troubleshoot this. We do have the correct licensing.

Do you have a separate subnet/VLAN for VMotion traffic? How are the physical switch ports configured (spanning-tree, port security) Maybe a screen shot of the virtual network setup can help.

We are using Cisco 3750Gig switches. I have NIC0 and NIC2 on the Dell810 host for management and Vmotion. NIC0 is active for managment and NIC2 on standby. We have NIC2 active for vmotion and NIC0 on standby. NIC1 and NIC4 are used for virtual machines.

I have a vlan defined for vmotion but I have no interface for it. I assign the vlan to the switch ports. The switch ports are setup as follows.

interface GigabitEthernet3/0/15
description ESX1 vmnic0
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate

This has been working till recent.

I read those links and it appears this issue on now on a bug list. (PR: 697348)

The suggested work arounds is more then I would like to get into.
