Essi6.5 USB Storage vmfs is not mounted.

Esxi6.5 rejected USB Storage.

At esxi6.0 I installed esxi in USB Storage, and then in the web page with USB Storage remaining space to create VMFS.

Upgrade to esxi6.5, you can see VMFS on the device partition, but esxi6.5 does not mount it.

@gamexg, there is currently no support for datastores on USB storage devices.  See KB 2145210 (vSphere SSD and Flash Device Support (2145210) | VMware KB) for a full explanation of what is supported.  In the terminology of the KB a "vmfs [filesystem]" is a "datastore" and the relevant text is:

SSD and Flash Device Use Cases

A non-exhaustive survey of various usage models in vSphere environment are listed below.

  • ...
  • Regular datastore
    • A (local) SSD is used instead of a hard disk drive.
    • This usage model has been supported since vSphere 6.0 for SATA and SCSI connected SSDs.
    • There is currently no support for USB connected SSDs or for low end flash devices regardless of connection type.
  • ...

Although you may have been able to create a VMFS filesystem on a USB storage device in vSphere 6.0 by using the Host Client the result was unsupported even in 6.0.

At the beginning do not know usb device is not supported, esxi6.0 directly in the web interface can create vmfs partition, and normal use, without any warning prompts.

Esql6.5 esql6.5 later to upgrade to the results of the storage inside the virtual machine all gone.

Initially thought it was wrong to upgrade Vmfs district damage, but can not see the log records, and finally found in the search esxi has not support the creation of vmfs usb ...

It is highly recommended to check for and prompt this problem during the upgrade.
