Errors during patching ESXi host with booting USB flash

Hello!

I've installed ESXi 4.1 on diskless host with booting USB flash Kingston 4GB.

Patched ESXi410-201010001 via vCLI (vihostupdate.pl) successfully.

But during next patch (ESXi410-201011001) I get error.

Tried the vihostupdate and esxupdate methods, the screenshots are below

How to solve the problem?

I guess the point is the lack of any space

Grand thanx

use hostupdate software which will find on program file ......>vmware folder.... for stanalone process

if you are having multiple hosts use vcenter update manager.....

or else use winscp tool and copy the zip file in esxi box and esxupdate ( but iwon't work on esxi i think so )

I'd suggest you configure the scratch location and then try to run to upgrade again.

How did you make out with this? What's the output of df?  (just df no -h).

Have a look at the size of your bootbank volume and the amount of  space

available on it. (have you got anythoing els eon the USB key - is it formatted as one partition?)

It may well be that the filesystem has a problem / is corrupt.

Have  a look at this SUPER useful doc . .

http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/check_system_partitions.php

Have you tried using a different USB key (histircally there were some issues with some USB keys - not sure if Kingston ones were amongst the 'faulty' list)

Are you using the version of ESXi as provided by your hardware vendor?

As a final resort, crack open the script and figure out what exactly it is writing - try write to the folder / path manually, or deletd the old path.

good luck

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

Thank you for your participation.

I've already won the trouble, but many poorly understood. I used update operation via VUM. I reinstalled ESXi (installable) again on another USB stick. Primarily I tried patches one after anoter, first (ESXi-410-201010001.zip) was updated successfully, but during next (ESXi-410-201011001.zip) got the same Errno 17. Further I set both updates in Remediation at the same time:

It helps:

esxiupdate2.jpg

But very strange.

Thank you for useful link.

I tried various USB sticks, no result.  ESXi version is Installable, because it's virtual machine for testing diskless esxi server.
