Error when enabling single datastore heartbeat

Hello,

I have a newly created HA (5.5) cluster using vSAN as a single datastore. HA cluster is configured with das.ignoreInsufficientHbDatastore, but when I select vSAN datastore as preferred heartbeat datastore, I get the following error:

The setting of userHeartbeatDs is invalid for cluster ClusterName

Google could not locate a single post/page mentioning this error.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Maybe this explains it.

From VSAN Part 9 - Host Failure Scenarios & vSphere HA Interop | CormacHogan.com

Another noticeable difference with vSphere HA on VSAN is that the VSAN datastore cannot be used for datastore heartbeats. ...

I assume this is due to the local VMFS-L version used with VSAN which doesn't use the same locking mechanism like a default VMFS datastore.

Hi,

I believe you can use VSAN with HA only if you have the following :

3 ESXi hosts in the cluster and all running 5.5 (which you've stated 5.5).

Have a look here vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center

I guess there is no reason to look any further for the solution. Thanks!
