Hi there,
I am having a problem restarting the management service on a host. I have logged onto the host using SSH. Logged in as my normal user and switched to root user. I then typed:
service mgmt-vmware stop
I then get the error message:
bash: service: command not found
Anyone any ideas? I am running esx 4.0.0 236512. I have a VM that has stopped responding after what looks like a snapshot problem running a backup into the vmware data recovery appliance. I am unable to power off or reset the VM (or do anything with it!!!) as it says 'another task already in progress'
I have put a ticket into VMware and despite it being a priority 2 call i havent had a call back. I think the management service restart will cure it but just can't get it to restart.
Thanks in advance
are you typing this as root? Also you can try /etc/init.d/mgmt-vmware restart

Hi there
Yes I am running as root user.
I have just tried that command and it worked a treat. Thanks for your help
Have you switched to root with su and not with "su -"...
Right?
In this case you haven't in your PATH the /sbin and similar directory.
