Error message pop-up on VM Tools upgrade

After upgrading to vSphere 5 on all of our hosts and migrating all VM's over to new VMFS5 volumes on a new SAN, we are down to just updating VM Tools. On every VM we have updated so far, right after you click OK to restart, an error message will flash for a brief second, too brief to even read.  After the VM has rebooted, the event viewer will show this message:

vmtoolserr1.jpg

And on at least one VM, the event viewer shows this message:

vmtoolserr2.jpg

Does this have something to do with the VM Tools temporary mount getting unmounted too earlier or something?  Just curious if anyone else has seen this and if it's causing any harm.  We've only upgraded tools on a few non-critical VM's so far.

thanks

Hello.

Does this have something to do with the VM Tools temporary mount getting unmounted too earlier or something?

I checked a few VMs running the latest version of VMware Tools on ESXi 5 hosts and didn't see this event on any of them. I would think it is due to the process you decsribed and could be safely ignored. Did you see any errors after the reboot?

Good Luck!

Hmm, I was hoping this was a known issue with VM Tools and vSphere 5 but doesn't sound like it's widespread if you're not seeing it.  We haven't seen any problems so far, but it's only been a few hours.  Makes me want to hold off on updating VM Tools on any other VM's for a bit though.

Is the 😧 your CD? VMware Tools installation goes to this device.

Maybe it is disable in the guest? Or an antivirus is locking it?
