Error in adding host to VCenter

Hello,

When I try to add an ESXi host in VCenter I get an error that "VPXa timed waiting for to start". I tried to restart the management agents on the ESXi agent however it didn't work. I followed this KB.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=203193...

As this didn't work I tried to restart the services on ESXi by doing Putty to the ESXi and trying to start the VPXa agent after killing the process by using PID.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&e...

It didn't work as well.

This is a new host that I am adding to a brand new datacenter. I have one host, 1 Domain Controller and 1 VCenter. I am fairly new to Vmware so need help in this regard. Thanks Smiley Happy

Have you performed any snapshots of the VM or backed up the VMs via a vSphere aware backup product like BackupExec or vRanger?

They can sometimes cause a problem where a snapshot is created but it is not listed in the snapshot manager.  That way you may have the 'too many snapshots' listed in the KB article you posted without realizing you have any snapshots.

Actually I just found out my problem. I was using VCenter 5.0 to connect to  ESX 5.1 host. Just downgraed to ESX5.0 and it worked. Thanks for the help Smiley Happy
