Error 1048320 on ESXi 5.5 install on Cisco C240

Hi, I'm getting error 1048320 error during the /usr/sbin/vmkfstools stage, (and no I'm not trying to do a nested config),

I'm doing a bare metal install on a Cisco C240 with RAID6 4Tb drive config (36Tb total) - using the latest Cisco ISO.

We were able to install no problem on 2 other C240's (only difference was they had 2Tb drives - 18Tb total)

Had an open VMware case for a while and not much to show - latest suggestion is to make the 36Tb volume smaller as a test.

Any other ideas?

Much appreciate for any tips, suggestions

What is the ESXi 5.5 build/update that you are trying to install ?

Is there any difference between the BIOS firmware version on 2 other working Cisco C240 servers and the affected C240 server ? also is there any difference between the HBA cards or Network cards ?

The ISO is 5.5 build 1746018 - we tried both of these ISOs:

System BIOS on the Error system is

Which seems very recent - I'll check the RAID as well

So I bit the bullet and reconfigured the 36Tb volume down to 11Tb and the install proceeded without issue.

I am hoping I can expand the volume via the LSI raid configurator now that ESXi is installed (I'm new to Cisco gear), but I did see an expand option in the LSI menus

So it appears there is some install limit (somewhere between 18Tb and 36Tb) where the install will error out - even though the documented max volume size is 64Tb.

Thanks

Hello Fletch00,

Appreciate your perseverance in resolving the issue Smiley Happy Good to know that limiting the volume to 11TB fixed this, it's a bit strange why it wouldn't work as 36 TB volume is supported.

Hi,

I have the same problem but on an HP Proliant DL380 G5 server how did you solve it?

Thank you!
