Entire VM Backup

Is there any autmoated way to entirely backup a VM?

I am able to do this with VMWare Server 2 by taking a snapshot and then backuping up that snapshot, but I wanted to move away from VMWare Server 2 to ESXi.

You can also use Vmware Converter:

Hi,

VCB and VDR are the $$ ways. Both need an vSphere Center.

Hi hmaa,

VMware Data Recovery is the simplest, but with vSphere only, not 3.5.

You could always clone a system using a scheduled task. You still need Virtual Center, but this can be done it 3.5.

I agree with FranckRookie that VMware Data Recovery is the simpilest method.

Veeam has a free product that I have used in a DataCenter Migration. Simple to use, and free. It can be used without Virtual Center.

PaulSvirin, how would you use VMWare converter?

Would it be a manual running clone of the VM?

With Converter you can do manually copy of the VMs.

You can try this software Trilead

beside that, if you can power off the VM during the backup, you can easily rsync, or copy to a different directory for backup purpose for the entire images and status of the virtual machine

AndreTheGiant, thanks for that link. We're currently testing the speeds with FastSCP.

Now we need a way to schedule snapshots.

Does someone have a link to scheduling snapshots in ESXi?

The first post should have been the answer. ghettoVCB You can schedule it to clone your VMs. Takes care of snapshots, rotating clones, etc. And fully free.

They are the most basic of fully licensed ESX(i) for 3 servers and a vCenter License.
