ESXi5 + SAS SAN Installation

We have recently bought an IBM System X Server 7979AC1 with ESXi 5.0.0 with SAS HBA's.

Also we bought an (SAN) IBM DS3512 Storage System with SAS Controller.

The DS3512 is directly attached to the server.

I cannot however see the DS3512 (SAN) when trying to configure datastores.

How can I see if the drivers for the HBA on the server has been installed?

Does anyone have any experience with installing ESXi + a SAS SAN solution?

Thanks in advance for any help.

So, what you have is DAS (Direct Attached Storage). Don't you need to have some kind of RAID card for this? We've got a Dell MD3000 (also a DAS) hooked up to a server, but that server has a PERC external RAID controller on which we create RAID volumes. Then they become visible to the host as virtual disks and we can create datastores on them.

Tomtom901,

The IBM DS3512 does have a RAID controller which is used to create RAID volumes.

The issue that I am having is that in ESXi 5 I can not see the DS3512 that is hooked up to our VM Server.
