ESXi5 RAID on XSERVE 3,2

Hi all,

i'm completely new to esxi and hope to find some help here. I just installed ESXi5 as a replacement for my XServe running OSX Server and Fusion - to get some more performance out of my vms. The server is listed compatible in the vmware compatiblity guide: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=server&productid=20234&devic...

The installation succeeded and i installed the esxi on my internal ssd. I've an additional apple raid card installed and 3x 2TB discs attached to it. Unfortunately, when trying to create a new datastore the wizard does not find neither my raid card nor any drive. Is there a way to install the needed drivers? Google gave me some official driver disks, but the apple raid was not listed at all.

Any ideas? Thanks, Florian

Welcome to the Community.

Did you check in the HCL if the raid card is also there in the compatable list.

Using esxcli command you can install dirvers refer the below link

~ # esxcli software
Usage: esxcli software {cmd} [cmd options]

Available Namespaces:
sources               Query depot contents for VIBs and image profiles
acceptance            Retrieve and set the host acceptance level setting
profile               Display, install, update or validates image profiles
vib                   Install, update, remove, or display individual VIB packages

Thanks for your fast reply. It seems that the apple raid card is not  on the list - do you know an unofficial repository where to get 3rd  party drivers?

I just checked the console which gave me some output:

~ # lspci | grep Apple
000:001:00.0 Mass storage controller: Apple Computer Inc.

dmesg contained some strange stuff:

2012-01-03T13:52:03.543Z cpu3:2940)FSS: 4333: No FS driver claimed device 'mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0': Not supported

- is this my raidcard? Possibly the drives are formatted unsing  OSX Extended, is there a way to format it using the console or even see  if the drives have been detected?

Thanks!

Vmware accepted drivers for the hardware will be there in the below link

http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere/5_0#drivers_tools

As its a apple raid you can check in vendor website, if they have specifically released any driver to support with vmware vsphere5.

There lot of raid controller supporting vsphere 5 you can check that in vmware HCL site.
