ESXi4 Update 2 Getting to unsupported

I am trying to enable SSH on my new ESXI 4 box (free version) When I go to Alt-F1 I type unsupported and nothing happens I type root password nothing happens.

What am I missing here? Any ideas?

Hello.

After typing unsupported and hitting Enter, are you even prompted for the password?

Nope I dont get a prompt. I can just keep typing.

Try hitting escape several times before typing unsupported.

Hit enter first, ensure that no caps lock on. and start type "unsupported" then enter.
