ESXi4: Best practices for datastore/storage/VM storage

Hi Folks,

Working on bringing ESXi to the home in hopes of simplifying my equipement real estate.

Have the following to work with:

-Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 on an Intel 975X desktop

-6GB ram

-Perc 5i PCIE RAID Controller

-2 1TB SATAII HDDs

-2 80GB SATAII HDDs

Would like to virtualize:

- my NAS setup, currently an old DELL Poweredge

- the "media server", which is really just Vista on an older Gateway running Windows Media UPNP Sharing for my media extenders

- domain controller (mapping drives, dhcp, yadda yadda)

What I was thinking:

1)Installing ESXi on one 80GB HDD,and creating the VM Datastore on the other 80GB HDD using the motherboard's controller

2)Creating a RAID 1 Mirror on the PERC card for the 1TB HDDs, create the datastore

3)Creating a VMs: Domain Controller, SAN/NAS, and a Media Server

4)Using the paravirtual scsi option, add a second virtual HD into the SAN/NAS VM [e.g. 2008 Server with the Freebie Starwind), and store it on the RAID1 datastore

5)Use ISCSI to provide storage space for the Media Server

Thoughts? Comments?
