ESXi v5.5 Update 2 with vCenter 5.5 Update 1?

Is it permissible to upgrade ESXi v5.5 Update 1 hosts to Update 2, while your vCenter is still on v5.5 Update 1? I have DRS and HA turned on as well in the cluster.

The VMware compatibility matrix states it is ok. I would just like to ask the community if that is really true.

I don't see a problem with it although I have not tested.

I upgraded IS, Webclient, SSO, vCenter etc all in one. Worked a charm.

Could have just done the SSO to resolve the SSO problem I had but did all services and working ok.

Yes, it will work. But you will not  get the latest vCenter updates : vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 Release Notes

As per my experience::: say you have VC 5.5 GA (first release of 5.5), VC should work with any ESXi in 5.5 series (U1/U2/U3/ patches etc..) . In addition to this, VC 5.5 GA can manage legacy ESXi hosts (4.1/5.0/5.1 etc)

Accordingly in your case, it should work too : VC 5.5U1 should manage ESXi 5.5 U2.

Nonetheless, As C# client in 5.5 U2 can edit VM with HW version 10. You may want to upgrade your C# client to 55 U2.

There is a link on above blog to just download C# client 5.5 U2. You need not upgrade your entire VC itself.

Refer below blog for more details on editing VM with hw 10.
