Hello everyone I am having some trouble installing ESXi on my system I am getting the error "esxi unable to load module vmfs3" after I accept the license agreement.  Here are my system specs:

MSI 740GM-P25 AM3 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz
WINTEC AMPX 4GB ( 2 x 2GB ) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel

I am trying to install from a usb drive to an IDE drive.

This message usually points to incompatible NICs.

The error usually indicates that ESXi is not able to recognize a NIC in the system.  Usually I add an Intel Pro 1000 GT card, but you can look at vm-help.com for additional drivers - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php.

I tried adding a 3com gigabit pciu card still no luck I have some realtek chipset ones somewhere I'll give one of those a try.  I don't think I have any intel ones.  I wish esxi would add more to its hardware compatibility.

EDIT: I just tried 4.0 and it said no compatible nic so I guess it is my nic so I guess no esxi for me Smiley Sad

Grab a used Intel Pro 1000 MT series NIC off of Ebay for $10.

Finally thats the list lol.  The EXPI9301CTBLK is only around 30 bux brand new thats not too bad.  Still would be nice if they added support for my onboard nic.

The list of supported components is short for a reason. Most embedded NICs on desktop motherboards just do not stand up well under load. Since in a virtual environment all the Virtual machines are sharing the NICs it doesn't make much sense to even consider supporting something that isn't well proven.

It's a free vm os for normal people I don't think were all going to have the most expensive server nics.

Hello,

I have the same issue after disabling the internal NIC (Marvel NIC) and Firewire in BIOS

So there's no NIC in my systems but still have error unable toi load module vmfs3.

Is that mean we cannot install vSphere 4.1 without NIC or my MB ASUS P5E still have another uncompatible hardware  ?

You'll need a NIC that ESXi can recognize to eliminate the vmfs module error.
