ESXi on Lenovo RD240 - USB devices & PCI-e

Greetings,

This is my first post here so forgive me if this question has been answered multiple times...

ESXi host: Lenovo RD 240

So are there any tricks to make my USB devices "visible and functionnal" in my VMs (i.e.: USB HDD). I've Googled the question and the only clear answer I've found is that although it might work, it is not recommended. I also added a PCI-e card (1 parallele port) to connect an old dongle to a VM (Win2k server) but it's not working.

Any words of wisdom?

Welcome to the VMware Communities forums.  The following KB article will take you throught the setup to connect a USB device to one of your VMs - http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022290.

Your parallel card may not be compatible with ESXi. I would check the HCL http://vmware.com/go/hcl

Thank you for the link, since I'm new with ESXi, I will pay attention to the HCL.

Thanks, unfortunately, I've already taken the steps outlined in the KB. But I will undergo the whole process again shortly and see if I missed anything in the first place.

I thought I should update this thread if someone else stumble upon this.

I was able to make my USB device work after adding a USB controler AND a USB device in my VM's settings.

I'm still a newbie....many thanks for your help!
