Hi,
Don't know whether this is the right place to post this. Our server infrastructure is using DELL servers and storage. However recently one of the remote site bought the above HP server to replace their server which is currently handling file and print share and DC as well. I need to install ESXi and convert the current server to a VM and hosted on the new HP server (esxi)
Just need help in the requirements like files to be downloaded from HP and setup on the server etc.
Thanks
you will need:
vmware converter to convert the server to a virtual server.
then donwload the HP esxi ISO and install it:
Make sure the server is on teh vmware HCL
Thanks for the prompt reply. Can you point me to the download location for the HP esxi ISO
Thanks
try the software and drives section for your server on hp's site.
Im not sure of the location of the exact iso.
I think you ahve to register for it, but its free.
What RAID card does this server have? Some of its options are supported, some are not.
SATA raid card

This probably isn't going to work.
I can give you a definite if you can provide an exact model.
Its a HP DL180G6 E5620 1P 8GB Base AP Svr
Product number : 590638-371
I'm afraid you will still need to advise the RAID card model before anyone can check the HCL.
Thanks for the feedback. Will turn on this machine and ge the details off it
Please check VMware from HP for ProLiant Servers - Support Matrix in addition to the official VMware Compatibility Guide
from HP's foot notes for the 4.x version:
(3) On some standard configurations, ProLiants come with HP Smart Array B110i. If this Smart Array is installed, RAID is not supported in any version of ESX. For RAID support, please add HP Smart Array P212, P410 or P411.

This box is using HP Smart Array P410
Hi,
I have been looking around the HP site for this without much luck. Can someone point me to the exact site for this am after esxi 4.1 for this box
Thanks
The P410 will work perfectly (provided it is not the "Zero memory" model). Ensure it contains BBWC/FBWC for disk performance (write-back operation).
You can access HP's OEM images from HP custom ESXi image. VMware's original ESXi installation ISO should also work with this server.
