ESXi on Dell VRTX

Hi folks,

I am looking to use Dell VRTX and install ESXi, however I have some concerns...

1.  Is it supported? Based on Del site they support only Windows OS, but not ESX

2. Does anybody have any experience with it?

Thank you

1) I know that it supports VMware, I've seen some people use it, so yes, it is used and supported.

2) Me personally no, but from what I've heared, it seemed to work just fine.

I know you can make it works with VMware, but I could not find any official info that it's supported

I haven't used it, but dell has a whitepaper on how to use it with esxi.

But please do note that Dell has certified vSphere 5.1 U1 only. Although 5.5 would work (based on community experiences), you might run into some problems if you need to escalate Dell Support.

It said:

"NOTE: Installing VMware ESXi on the Dell PowerEdge VRTX shared storage is not supported."

Yes, which would mean your blades in the VRTX chassis need to have USB or SD storage on which VMware ESXi is installed. You cannot do boot from SAN or something with the VRTX. That is the limitation that Dell meant.

Good luck, very curious to hear your opinion and experience with the VRTX system.
