ESXi login issue using vSphere client

Hi All,

I have encountered ESXi login problem and issue is as below:

  1. I have VC with multiple clusters and ESXs
  2. I noticed that one of the ESX host I am unable to connect through vSphere client with root
  3. It says “you don’t have permission to access this ESXi host”
  4. When I directly access in the console “root” works
  5. I have enabled the “SSH” but still I am not able to access this esxi host though SSh.

I have checked the VMware KB No: KB: 1003807, but the resolution provided is not enough to resolve my issue.

Can anyone help…?

Regards,

Vijaykumar B.

Did you restart the host or inetd after enabling SSH?

By any chance, did someone change the groups root belongs to? Maybe this KB might give some insight:

Hi,

Assuming you can see the host ok from vCenter just verifying do you see ssh listed (via Configuration | Security Profile) -  under"services" and "outgoing"?

Just to test did you temporarily drop the firewall and see if you could connect? can forward you the syntax for this just need to know what ver you are running there.

Many tx!

This is what it sounds like to me.  Connect to vCenter, go to the host, configuration tab, security profile, and scroll down all the way to the bottom.  You'll find the lockdown mode settings there.  If it's enabled, then it will not accept connections/logins unless it comes in through vCenter.
