ESXi in KVM with virtio devices

Hi all,

I recently installed ESXi6.7 and ESXi7.0 in KVM. The virtio block devices and network devices cannot be used in them, though they have been visible in pci lists.

Does ESXi support virtio devices? Or is there any way to use virtio devices for ESXi?

As I know, Nested ESXi can be deployed on ESXi server and also there is driver for some Para-Virtualized devices.

I too am trying to enable the Red Hat VirtIO Driver for Nested ESXi. I currently have my hypervisor running in nested on my QNAP NAS and have a 10GbE Network Card and would like to use my 10GbE Network Card. Unfortunately i just cannot locate the drivers for the RedHat VirtIO Network adapter to use 10GbE. I have to continue to use the Intel Gigabit Option. If anyone could help me in locating these drivers for ESXi and assist with the installation of these drivers, I would be very greatful.

Best Wishes,

Ashley

That is interesting - my trial of esxi 8 fails to find any network ifaces in KVM's VM with e1000.

Is that what works for you?

thanks, L.
