ESXi host not saving inventory, configuration udpates etc.

Hi,

I've done some googling it appears that is a problem but I can't seem to find a solution. I am booting ESXi 5.5 from a USB stick but when I make configuration changes they are not saved. My "scratch" is located on one of the HDD volumes. How do I make this work?

Thanks!

Maybe at installation the HDD drives where not detected? - take a look at

and see if that helps

I've done the /sbin/auto-backup.sh - downloaded the /tmp/state.tgz file to my PC - look at the vmInventory.xml file and everything is as it should be. I then reboot the server check the vmInventory.xml file and it's reverted?!?

I just found this which might help: Booting ESXi off USB/SD | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

In the comments a User 'Leo' had similar problems (no config saved) and someone answered that it might be due to the USB stick was placed in a USB 3.0 port and swapping that to a USB 2.0 port helped.

You need to make sure you can still access the scratch . Please do make sure connection to the device is proper.
