  • 1.  ESXi failing to build on Lenovo Thinksystem SR630 V2

I hope you guys can help me.

I'm trying to install ESXi(so far tried 6.5-7) on the above system. I'm doing so via the Clarity Controller and the USB pen with the image is plugged in locally to the server.

I've tried RAID 0 and 1, legacy boot etc, but the install won't see the local disk, just the USB pen.

    I get this error: 'error:/tmp.ks.cfg:line 2'

I'm using the Lenova custom ISO, and I've managed to install W10 onto the server so I can edit the USB remotely.

    Thanks in advance.

If the RAID is using the motherboard on-board SATA, that is software RAID. ESXi does not support software RAID. Turn off the RAID and switch to AHCI mode. If you want RAID for the datastore, a supported hardware RAID controller from the HCL is required.

It is best to use UEFI boot. Legacy boot likely means it is using BIOS mode or CSM mode.

    Hello.
Just to be sure, which controller are you using.
Onboard SATA Controller (Intel VROC SATA RAID, formerly known as Intel RSTe RAID)
    o
NVMe Retimer Adapter (supports Intel VROC NVMe RAID)
In other words, what type of internal disks are you using?
If you are using NVMe disk (card), then yes ESXi is supported from version 7U1 onwards. You must configure a RAID1 and boot in UEFI mode.
