If you're using vCenter Server, at vCenter level, go to Alarms tab, change to Definitions view, select the Alarm -> go to Action tab and set a action:

I would rather go thought "Troubleshooting fibre channel storage connectivity " in KB from my previous post and identify source of this often connection issues . If you want to get notified in case this reoccurs you can create alarms .Here some guide

Hey hareshn,

I typically create two custome alarms for this:

1.)  From your cluster or vCenter level in the alarms definitions view right click and create a new alarm

2.)  In the General Tab name your alarm and under the monitor drop down select Hosts

3.)  Under the hosts selection select Monitor for specific events occuring on this object, for example, vm power on radio button

4.)  Make sure the alarm is enabled

5.)  Under the Triggers tab in the events section near the end of the event colum click the drop down arrow, it usally invisiable or hiding till your mouse is over it, then select Lost Storage Path Redundacy, you don't need any advanced conitions

6.)  Under the Actions tab setup a email notification and the actoins to take.  I set mine up for:  Once from green --> Yellow, Once for Yellow --> Red

Repeat this process for the second alarm however at step 5.)  in the drop down select Datastore Path Redundacy

There is a bunch of others in the drop down list that you can pick from.

the problem with Netapp storage controller and that case is already reported to them. they have identified there are some faulty drives on the controller which need to replace.. which will take few more days, so mean while we need option where can create alarm for this issue.

Richardson,

we have already created Lost Storage connectivity and Lost Storage path redundancy alarm, but this they are not generating any alarm when this event get triggered

Have you configured the SMTP settings in your vCenter, if not, go to Administration -> vCenter Server Setting -> Mail and add the SMTP Server and Sender Account.

Have you figured out why emails are not being sent for Lost Storage connectivity? I am having same issue here. My alarm is configured so it sends an email when ANY of the following occurs:

Degraded Storage Path Redundancy

Lost Storage Path Redundancy

Lost Storage Connectivity

Alert is created on vCenter level.

vCenter is sending emails for other alarms successfully.

I'm having the same issue.  I created 3 separate alarms for these events:

  • Degraded Storage Path Redundancy
  • Lost Storage Path Redundancy
  • Lost Storage Connectivity

Alert is created at the Datacenter level.

vCenter is sending emails for other alarms successfully but not for these 3 events!?!
